Canary Black made its way to Amazon Prime Video in October 2024, and fans have been left wondering if a sequel will ever be released.
Underworld star Kate Beckinsale leads Amazon Prime Video's action thriller where she played CIA agent Avery Graves and went on a mission to save both her country and her kidnapped husband from terrorists.
How Canary Black Sets Up a Sequel
By the end of Canary Black, Kate Beckinsale's Avery Graves had successfully averted the terrorists' plot to unleash the dangerous Canary Black virus.
While Graves was briefly arrested by the CIA for putting the world in danger and was close to being confronted by Director of the Central Intelligence Agency Nathan Evans, she was ultimately saved at the last moment by Saffron Burrows' Elizabeth Mills.
The mysterious woman invited her to join a secret new agency called MC6, the details behind which were left vague by the end of Canary Black.
This curious invite left Graves' future uncertain and set up a sequel in which Beckinsale's agent would board MC6 and take on more world-ending threats.
Will Canary Black 2 Happen on Amazon Prime Video?
Since Canary Black just recently began streaming on Amazon Prime Video, only time will tell whether a sequel gets green-lit. As always, such an announcement will hinge on viewing figures and the reactions from critics and audiences alike.
Impressively, the film has charted #1 on Prime Video's Top 10 Movies in the United States for six straight days, from October 25 through October 30.
But, unfortunately, the first reactions to Canary Black have generally been negative, as the movie currently holds just a 27% rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, while most critic reviews are similarly negative.
Unless the viewing figures of Canary Black continue to prove greatly successful, unlike the reactions from those who have watched, a sequel appears unlikely to happen, despite the set-up found in the movie's ending.
Canary Black is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
