Battlefield V was released on November 20, 2018, on Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Since its release, the first-person shooter has added six DLC "chapters", with the latest releasing in February of last year. Until now, Electronic Arts has released a new Battlefield game nearly on an annual basis since 2014's Battlefield 4. If a new game in this gritty franchise released today, it would be the longest gap between games since Battlefield 4 and 2015's Battlefield Hardline.
EA has already had a busy day, announcing the return of an NCAA Football video game , and now it looks as though they'll be taking Battlefield to the next generation.
NEXT-GEN BATTLEFIELD
During an Electronic Arts earnings call today, EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed a new installment of Battlefield is set to release this Holiday season. The game will be revealed this Spring and, according to industry analyst Daniel Ahmad , EA says "the development of Battlefield is progressing well."

EA says the development of Battlefield is progressing well. The team is on track to be feature complete earlier than prior games.
Wilson teases that this next installment will feature "all-out military warfare" and take "full advantage" of Playstation 5 and Xbox Series S/X consoles.
“Our next Battlefield Experience will mark the return to all-out military warfare. The game takes full advantage of the power of the next-generation platforms, to bring massive and immersive battles to life to more players than ever before."
He also alludes to the biggest map ever in a Battlefield game.
"Featuring map with unprecedented scale, the next iteration of Battlefield takes all the destruction, player agency, vehicle and weapon combat the franchise is known for, and elevates it to another level. The team is focused and ahead of our internal milestones."
MORE BATTLEFIELD 3?
A new version of Call of Duty's greatest competitor will be a welcomed addition to the next-gen lineup, as Activision has already released Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War for current and next-gen consoles, it is only fitting that EA now follows suit.
The rumor mill on this particular game has been in full swing since earlier in 2020. Industry insider Tom Henderson, who is known for his insights of the Battlefield and Call of Duty franchises, has shared some rumors he's heard. The first of which being that the current version of the untitled upcoming Battlefield game will be a "feature-limited edition."
Different versions are required because of the technology difference between current and next gen consoles - But at the moment I have no detail on what exactly the "feature-limited version" entails. Will update when info comes.
In a YouTube video , Henderson shares more rumors on the setting and map-size for this upcoming Battlefield title. He says that it will be heavily inspired by Battlefield 3 , taking place in a modern setting. Whether it's a remastering of Battlefield 3 or its own modern-day game is unclear. Henderson also says that the "map with unprecedented scale" Wilson mentioned earlier could support up to 128 players. Game details are set to be officially announced this Spring.
