Spider-Man: Miles Morales released for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on November 12 of this year. It was developed by Insomniac Games, makers of the Ratchet & Clank series and Marvel’s Spider-Man .
Set after the events of Spider-Man , the game focuses on Miles Morales, who is tasked with assuming the role of Spider-Man after Peter Parker leaves New York on vacation.
The game was well-received by critics upon release, holding a score of 85 on Metacritic . It was nominated for “Best Action/Adventure” for the 2020 Game Awards , and Nadji Jeter – who plays Miles Morales – was nominated for “Best Performance.” The show is being held virtually on December 10.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is described as one of the killer-apps for the PlayStation 5. Miles Morales , along with Demon’s Souls , the indie-hit Bugsnax , and the pack-in game Atro’s Playroom , represents one of the strongest launch lineups in PlayStation history.
NEWS
Today, PlayStation released a video for Spider-Man: Miles Morales on its YouTube channel.
The video, titled “Family Behind the Scenes,” features the voice actors of several of the game’s main characters. Nadji Jeter (Miles Morales), Griffin Puatu (Ganke Lee), and Jacqueline Pinol (Rio Morales) all provide background for the characters’ motivations in the game. Spanish Harlem, the main location in the game, is also a focus of the video.
The description of the video reads:
Meet the talented performers who brought Miles, Ganke and Rio to life in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Learn about their characters and world, and why they were so excited to work with Insomniac Games and be a part of this chapter in the Marvel's Spider-Man universe.
The video also showcases gameplay for the recently released game, as well as story details that players will experience in the game.

WHAT THIS MEANS
This video essentially tells new players what to expect when they play Spider-Man: Miles Morales . It concisely describes the general plot of the game, showcases gameplay and Miles’ unique abilities, and describes some of the game’s characters. It’s decidedly focused on getting new players to purchase Miles Morales , as the Holiday season is rapidly approaching with Black Friday just days away.
This type of video could signify a new marketing approach for PlayStation during the PlayStation 5 life cycle. It peels back the curtain on the acting side of games, letting players see and hear from the actors who voiced games’ characters. It’s possible that future games – like the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West or God of War: Ragnarok – will feature similar videos of actors in those games describing them to the PlayStation audience.
PlayStation produced longer versions of these behind-the-scenes videos for games like The Last of Us and God of War . Grounded : The Making of The Last of Us and God of War - Raising Kratos are the documentaries created about the development processes of those games. “Family Behind the Scenes” is more of a shorter marketing-style video, but it represents PlayStation’s approach to detailing the developers and actors who create video games.
