The latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops Cold War , has been out for around a week now and many fans have noticed the absence of the fan-favorite Treyarch classic, Nuketown. That is about to change with the release of the game's first major content release next week. Prior to the game's launch, the Santa Monica based studio revealed a roadmap for the first few major updates that will be coming to the game.
The first season won’t be beginning until December 10, bringing with it new multiplayer maps, new weapons, the return of Modern Warfare ’s fan favourite 2v2 Gunfight mode, new zombies modes, and the integration of Black Ops Cold War into the global hit Warzone battle royale. But prior to that on November 24 , it was confirmed that we will be seeing the release of Nuketown ’84, the newest reinvention of the classic Nuketown map that has been in every Black Ops game over the last 10 years.
NEWS
In a post on the official Call of Duty blog, Activision has revealed the first details of a brand new Nuketown cosmetic weapon bundle that will be offered to players totally free. The offer is described as a “special thank you to everyone who played Black Ops Cold War since its release.” Any player who has logged into the game at any point from its release until 10am PT on November 20 will receive the bundle upon logging in at some point prior to the expiration of the offer on November 20. This offer will remain available for those who buy the game up until 2am PT on December 4.
The bundle contains ten cosmetic rewards to be used in multiplayer or zombies – or Warzone upon its integration with the launch of season 1.
The list includes the “Last Stop” epic shotgun weapon blueprint, six weapon charms (all mannequin themed to fit the iconic Nuketown theme), a “Test Subjects” sticker, a “Nuketown Legend” emblem, and an “Omnibus” calling card.
Not only that, but Treyarch also released a short teaser trailer to showcase the bundle which offers the first brief snippets of footage of the new map.
WHAT THIS MEANS
The release of Nuketown ’84 has been highly anticipated by players for some time to not only bring back a fan favourite classic, but also to get some more new content in the game. Black Ops Cold War released to some justified criticism regarding a lack of multiplayer maps present in the game – with only eight available on release, six of which were present in the beta.
Leakers within the community have found, since release, that the files for the Nuketown ’84 map are in fact present in the current build of the game and were able to be accessed via the use of PC mods, with some even managing to load into a game on the map.
The release of this free cosmetic bundle will prove to be exciting for many. Call of Duty has a long history in recent years for charging high rates in micro-transactions for cosmetic items, so its extremely promising for the future of the game to be seeing items given away to everyone free of charge.
Black Ops Cold War is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC via Battle Net.
