Star Wars Battlefront II has gone through a turbulent time since its release back in 2017. The game, which released with little content, similar to the first entry in the series, Star Wars Battlefront , also included characters from the newest trilogy of Star Wars movies, for example, Rey Skywalker and Captain Phasma. The gameplay style tried its best to match that of the well-loved originals, with intense, high number battles being the focal point of any multiplayer match.

However, the game came under heavy criticism early into its release , following the huge amounts of micro-transactions present, something that has become a staple of EA releases in recent years. These in-game 'credits' were necessary to unlock some of the franchise's most famous characters such as Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, something fans felt as if should be available without additional purchases.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released late in 2019, and did well to recover some of the damage EA has done to the Star Wars gaming franchise, and recent social media postings may give us some insight into what the publishers have planned next,

NEWS

In a post on the r/StarWarsBattlefront Reddit page , user Potatoslayer2 has discovered that multiple members of the Star Wars Battlefront 2 cast have recently been recording both motion-capture shots and voice recordings, potentially hinting towards a future release for the Star Wars video game franchise.

Janina Gavankar (Iden Versio), Anthony Skordi (Admiral Garrick Versio) and T.J Ramini (Del Meeko) have also posted pictures of these recording sessions within the last month, as well as Ramini and Skordi confirming in December that they were “ working together on a yet to be announced project ”.

In a reply to the Skordi's tweet, one user responded “ Star Wars? , which he later went on to like .

Ramini showed off a motion-capture suit, used by a majority of developers to increase the quality of their games.

Skordi also thanked Ramini in a tweet, along with a clip from the Battlefront 2 campaign, in which Ramini stated they can't reveal what they'd been working on.

WHAT THIS MEANS

While no official word has come from EA regarding a sequel to 2017's Star Wars Battlefront 2, this seems to be a huge indication that something may be in the works. Leaks have also begun to flow recently regarding a new release within the Battlefield franchise, however, a recent rumour regarding a logo reveal has been debunked . If DICE is indeed currently working on the newest version of their popular first-person shooter, it's doubtful they would also put their efforts towards a fully-fledged Battlefront release as well.

There's also potential that EA and DICE may stray away from the multiplayer focus titles, and release something with a basis towards the single-player. As mentioned, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a hit amongst the community, so the developers may be considering something similar. Given that Battlefront 2 contained an albeit lack-luster single-player campaign, the characters present are the only ones confirmed to have worked together so far, therefore an Inferno Squad based game may just be over the horizon.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available now, and from January 14th, will be available for free on Epic Games Store.
