At the Ubisoft Forward convention in September of last year, it was announced that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time would be receiving a remake. The original 2003 release is iconic amongst the franchise, praised for its memorable main character and refreshing time-winding mechanics.
The reveal trailer however, showed off some disappointing visuals, with fans questioning whether the graphical elements had in fact been improved. Ubisoft noticed this, and pushed the game back from its January 21 release to March 18.
With no news seemingly revealed from Ubisoft within the last few months, fans had started to questions whether another delay was on the table and a post on Twitter has confirmed these suspicions.
PRINCE OF PERSIA REMAKE PUSHED BACK
In a post from the game's official Twitter account, Ubisoft UK has announced that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has had its release date pushed back from March 18, 2021. A new release date is yet to be confirmed, with the studio stating “ we know this may come as a surprise .”

This is now the second time the game has been delayed, with Ubisoft announcing in December that the game needs more time “ to ensure we will deliver a game you will enjoy .”

GAME DELAYS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE
It's been unsurprising to see the number of games that have received delayed release dates in the last few months, given the situation we find ourselves in.
Not only has the COVID-19 pandemic caused numerous problems relating to workload and accessibility for developers, but the disastrous release of Cyberpunk 2077 also seems to have struck fear into the eyes of many, with precautions taken wherever possible. Releasing a half-finished game with updates to come no longer seems a viable option, with fans becoming increasingly impatient with certain publishers.
We will never be sure what state the game is currently in, but Ubisoft UK seemed it viable to delay Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. Fans were quick to jump on its disappointing reveal back in September, so it seems that the developer has listened to feedback. They will be keen to get the game right, with Assassin's Creed , the 'successor' of the popular franchise, flourishing in the time since the last Prince of Persia title.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is set to release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions available via backwards compatibility.
