Star Wars: New Evidence Points to Video Game Debut News Later This Year

Despite the global reach of the galaxy far, far away, Star Wars has had a small footprint in the video gaming space in recent years.

With publisher EA holding the exclusive license on the property for a while, players only had titles like Star Wars Battlefront II and Jedi: Fallen Order to tide them over. That is soon to change, though, as it seems Lucasfilm is intent on ramping up in the video game department.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been in development for quite some time at Traveller's Tales but will finally hit platforms in Spring 2022. The classic Knights of the Old Republic will also be getting a full remake exclusive to PlayStation, bringing the beloved title up to modern standards.

Now, fans can expect a new announcement related to a Star Wars video game extremely soon.

New Star Wars Gaming Announcement in December

Disney and Lucasfilm launched a new promotional campaign called "Bring Home the Bounty," which will debut new Star Wars "toys, collectibles, books, apparel, and more" every week up until the end of the year.

Accompanying the launch was a roadmap for the various announcements that consumers can expect, which notably features a gaming-related reveal set for the tenth week on December 14:

A Gaming Announcement Not So Far Away?

With many gaming titles in development, there are several options for what this gaming announcement could end up being.

The most likely option is a new trailer for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, considering its Spring 2022 release window will be just around the corner by the time the announcement rolls around. This could come with a new showcase for the title's gameplay, as well as a potential reveal of the official release date so that fans can plan their 2022 shopping lists.

Another possibility is an update on the Knights of the Old Republic (KOTORemake previously announced during Sony's Fall 2021 PlayStation Showcase, possibly providing a bigger glimpse at how it will adapt from the original source material. KOTOR appearing is less likely though, as it is expected that the game is early on in development.

Perhaps Disney will give the spotlight to Zynga's Star Wars: Hunters, the arena battler that pits a swathe of scum and villainy against each other. This may be disappointing to some Star Wars fans hoping to hear about the galaxy's next big move in gaming but might be likely considering the game's 2022 release date.

The announcement could, of course, come in the form of a brand-new, previously unknown reveal, which would be the most exciting prospect for Star Wars fans. The critical and commercial success of Jedi: Fallen Order practically assured that a sequel would soon follow from developer Respawn Entertainment, so another entry in Cal Kestis' journey would be a welcome surprise indeed.

Fans will just have to wait until December 14, 2021 to find out exactly what is in store next for Star Wars in gaming.
