With the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man and its side-quel centered on Miles Morales, Marvel Entertainment has put more emphasis on their gaming output.

While the release of Marvel’s Avengers has been somewhat disappointing for many, other video game releases are set to make up for it. The recent Guardians of the Galaxy game is already a major step up in the eyes of many players, and the teaser trailer for the Insomniac-developed Wolverine game garnered a lot of excitement.

A surprising direction for Marvel's gaming division is a tactical RPG titled Marvel's Midnight Suns, which allows players to take control of the likes of Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Blade, and more in turn-based combat. A gameplay trailer showed off how cards would be used in combat, in addition to the various costumes available for the game's wide roster.

Now, the developers and publisher have shared an important announcement about the game’s upcoming release.

Marvel's Midnight Suns Delayed

Via Fanbyte, an earnings call with Take-Two Interactive revealed that Marvel's Midnight Suns will be delayed from its original release of March 2022 to the second half of 2022.

In conjunction with the announcement, Firaxis Games shared a post to social media explaining the reasoning for the delay:

Firaxis Games

"Hey everyone,

On behalf of Firaxis Games, thank you for sharing just how excited you are for Marvel’s Midnight Suns. We’ve been thrilled to see your reaction to everything from our announcement of the game to the reveal of our card-based tactical combat. Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a true dream project for the team and we can’t express what an honor it is to create something new in the Marvel Universe.

We decided to share that we’ve made the very tough decision to move our launch window to the second half of 2022. We know many fans were looking forward to playing the game originally next spring, and this decision did not come lightly. We decided to push our launch because we need more time to make this the best game possible. We believe in our creative vision for Marvel’s Midnight Suns and want to do justice in delivering an unforgettable adventure set in the supernatural side of Marvel. These extra months will be used to add more story, cinematics and overall polish and will be essential in helping us make our vision a reality.

Thank you for understanding - you are the best fans in the world."

More Story for Midnight Suns?

After a number of rushed launches have resulted in public fiascos and fan backlash, many studios and developers have opted for spending more time on their games to achieve the best possible products for consumers.

It seems that Midnight Suns will benefit greatly from these extra months of development, with the mention of additional story content being particularly interesting. Plot details have been relatively scarce so far, but extra time with Doctor Strange and Iron Man on top of what players would have been getting already is definitely a nice bonus for waiting just a bit longer.

This will undoubtedly be beneficial for the developers too, lessening the risk of overworking and burnout just to meet a release date. Hopefully, other studios will continue this practice to give players top-quality games without having to sacrifice the well-being of their employees.

Marvel's Midnight Suns releases on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC in the second half of 2022.
