WandaVision is continuing to surprise audiences week after week in its first season run on Disney+. The Marvel Studios series takes a direction that no other MCU property has before, putting two Avengers in the middle of their own sitcom influenced by different decades of American television.

Aside from Wanda Maximoff and Vision being at the center of the show, last week's episode brought back a few more familiar faces from very different corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to round out the supporting cast — Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man and The Wasp , Darcy Lewis from Thor , and Monica Rambeau from Captain Marvel .

The spin-off series is taking full advantage of the unique medium of television to deliver on an entertaining, mystery-filled adventure that incorporates an amalgam of genres. While WandaVision already has enough to call it a truly uncanny entry in the MCU , apparently there were even weirder plot points lost in the writer's room.

WANDAVISION COULD HAVE BEEN WEIRDER

In an interview with Deseret News , WandaVision head writer and executive producer Jac Schaeffer gave more details about developing the Disney+ series.

When asked if there was anything left out of the final product that Schaeffer considered weirder than what audiences will see, Schaeffer revealed that there were “certainly things I wish we had tried:”

“Yeah, I mean there were definitely things that I liked. There wasn’t anything that I was like, ‘I’m gonna walk off this project because you won’t do this’ — like nothing was ever like that intense. There are certainly things that I wish we had tried, but I do think all of those things that fall into that category are things that fell by the wayside in an effort to strengthen a cohesive story. The series itself is such an enormous swing. So, whatever weirder (things) that I wanted to do — I think we sort of nailed it with being an odd duck.”

EVEN THE MCU HAS ITS LIMITS

WandaVision already contains some pretty wild concepts, but it's still fascinating to hear about these deleted concepts that “fell by the wayside.” With the episodes, characters, and storylines that the show's explored so far, it's hard to imagine an even stranger version of the series.

Schaeffer explains it perfectly, however, when she describes this spin-off as “an enormous swing” that's already an “odd duck” by being an incredibly unique MCU experience. Adding any weirder concepts for the sake of delivering on the unorthodox nature of the show could have taken away from fans' embrace of the story, a fear that Schaeffer even had with the final product .

Scarlet Witch's story is far from over after WandaVision , so maybe these discarded plot points could still be adapted at some point in the character's future. However, with the show barely reaching its midpoint, fans will still have to wait to see exactly what sorts of crazy routes this series has planned for the next batch of episodes.
