The Suicide Squad is the next movie on DC's docket, and promotion for the upcoming film is ramping up. The first trailer for the quasi-sequel to 2016's Suicide Squad dropped online last week, and fans are already hungry to see more of Margot Robbie, John Cena, and the rest of the talented actors & actresses in the stacked cast.
Those able to head out to movie theaters in the near future just might get the chance to see a bit more. A new cinemas-only trailer has begun playing, and it has quite a bit of footage absent from the one released on the internet.
NEW TRAILER, NEW SCENES FOR JAMES GUNN FLICK
The new The Suicide Squad trailer starts out with some clips of various members of the team living their lives separately, including King Shark looking into what appears to be an aquarium tank and Ratcatcher 2 surrounded by rats while sitting in an alley at night. This is followed by the team being debriefed on their mission.
Footage of squad members using their special skills is also included, like John Cena's Peacemaker shooting an enflamed bullet and David Dastmalchian's Polka-Dot Man blasting polka dot confetti at an enemy, followed by a shot of the confetti appearing to explode.
Other notable scenes in the trailer that weren't in the first include a crash of a vehicle that appears to have members of the team inside, Nathan Fillion's TDK detatching his arms from his body (adding credence to the rumor that his initials stand for "The Detatchable Kid"), and a scene of Peacemaker describing the reasoning behind his nickname, saying "I cherish peace will all my heart. I don't care how many men, women, and children I need to kill to get it."
Upon hearing this, Ratcatcher 2 turns to Polka-Dot Man and says "I thought you were the crazy on," to which he remarks "I am."
One other major moment not present in the first trailer features several members of the squad surrounding what appears to be a statue that explodes pink and blue bubbles in a geyser-like fashion to the astonishment of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn.

A DIFFERENT VIBE FOR THE SUICIDE SQUAD
The tone of this trailer is a bit different from the one that hit the web last week. While that one was largely comedic and almost laid-back, this one makes the scale of the film seem grander and more epic.
A lot of this comes from the whispered monologue at the beginning of the theatrical trailer as well as the music choices, one of which is a dramatic cover of "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye."
There is a good chunk of comedy in this new trailer as well, though most of it consists of bits seen in the online one. From the looks of things so far, there will be plenty of action and laughs in the movie, and the film's actual tone will probably be somewhere in between this explosive theatrical trailer and the more relaxed-feeling internet one.
The Suicide Squad will release in cinemas and on HBO Max August 6, 2021.
