The Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to bring Secret Invasion to Disney+ as a special event series for the franchise.
Directed by Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim, the MCU series will showcase the return of Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn's Talos. Joining the Captain Marvel pair is a stacked ensemble of stars including the likes of Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Christopher McDonald (Happy Gilmore), and Kingsley Ben-Adir (One Night in Miami).
Plot details of Secret Invasion are still being kept under wraps, but it's reasonable to assume that it will follow the same path of the comic book storyline that drastically altered the landscape of the world. This is due to the basic premise of the narrative where (evil) Skrulls have secretly infiltrated Earth for quite some time.
As for the production side, it was previously rumored that the Marvel series would begin filming from mid-August 2021. However, a new report suggests that the official start of filming just began in London.

Film London shared that Nick Fury actor Samuel L. Jackson was spotted on the streets of London while filming his scenes for Secret Invasion, confirming that production had already started for the Disney+ series.
Secret Invasion Is Primed for a 2022 Disney+ Debut
Based on the current production trajectory of the show, it looks like Secret Invasion is poised for a summer 2022 or fall 2022 debut on Disney+. This would allow the creatives of the show more time to finish the project, but many would agree that the release schedule would still depend on the interconnected storylines of the MCU.
Given that production has reportedly begun, this would provide an opportunity for eagle-eyed fans or press members to capture set photos or videos that would confirm or deny rumored cast members such as Chloe Bennet's Daisy Johnson from ABC's Agents of SHIELD.
Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury has been confirmed to be the main lead of Secret Invasion, and it will be interesting to see how the former SHIELD director will deal with the Skrull infestation in the series. On top of that, the confirmed inclusion of Talos will also make things complicated considering how 2019's Captain Marvel managed to showcase a positive image for the Skrulls.
In the pages of Marvel Comics, Secret Invasion is an earth-shattering storyline that changed the superhero world like never before. While this upcoming series will be showcased on the small screen, there's still a strong chance that the ramifications will be felt in films like The Marvels and even Avengers 5.
