The small screen branch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been consistent in providing fans with a plethora of content, and the next in line is Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye series on Disney+.
The upcoming series will not just showcase the return of the Avengers' resident archer, but it will also feature the MCU debut of Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop. The series appears to be based on Matt Fraction and David Aja's Hawkeye run from 2012-2015, a storyline that explores the dynamic between Clint Barton and Kate.
Despite knowing Hawkeye's comics inspiration, plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the first official piece of marketing confirmed several storylines. The trailer showed that Clint will be in New York during Christmas time, and this is where he will meet the young female archer as well as the dangerous Tracksuit Mafia.
Now, as the show's November release inches closer, a major announcement has arrived that could entice audiences to tune in on Disney+.
Hawkeye Receives Two-Episode Premiere on Disney+
Marvel Studios confirmed that Hawkeye will receive a two-episode premiere on Disney+ on November 24, 2021. It was previously assumed that Hawkeye would follow in the footsteps of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki, the MCU's two released 6-episode series, and kick off with just one episode.
Alongside the reveal, a brand-new trailer for the Jeremy Renner-led series (aptly titled "Change of Plans") was unveiled, which can be seen in full below:
Hawkeye Will Make MCU Small Screen History
The latest confirmation makes Hawkeye is the second Marvel Studios series to have a two-episode premiere on Disney+ following WandaVision. It remains to be seen if this trend will continue with other small-screen series like Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk, but there's a strong chance that this is being done due to the upcoming December debut of The Book of Boba Fett on December 29, 2021.
Doing this creates an instance where Hawkeye and The Book of Boba Fett won't coincide with one another, making it a win-win situation for both Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm.
Given the massive slate of both Marvel and Star Wars in 2022, it's reasonable to assume that the same could happen down the line, especially with the looming arrival of projects like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Moon Knight, Andor, and Secret Invasion.
Based on the current release timeline of the series, Hawkeye's fifth episode is also near Spider-Man: No Way Home's December release. It is unknown if the two projects will connect, but there's always a chance that Easter eggs to each other's in-universe storylines could be referenced in some form.
It's also worth pointing out that both Hawkeye and No Way Home are primarily set in New York, thus leaving many to further speculate about the project's connection.
Hawkeye's two-episode premiere is already an early Christmas present from Marvel Studios, and it will be interesting to find out what other surprises will be in store for the Marvel series.
