While DC Films and Warner Bros. continue to build their expansive DC Extended Universe with a new slate of movies, The CW Network continues to expand their successful run of DC-based shows. The Arrowverse kicked off in 2012 with the release of Stephen Amell's Arrow, which spawned several other spin-off shows, including The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and more.
After eight seasons, Arrow finally came to a close in 2020, which suggested that fans may start to see less content from the Arrowverse. Supergirl was later confirmed to end with a sixth season, along with Black Lighting, which will end after the fourth season. This trend is continuing today with news that could effectively signal the end of an era.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that The CW has passed on a potential Arrow spin-off show entitled Green Arrow and The Canaries. This series would have seen Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy, and Juliana Harkavy reprise their roles as Mia Queen, Laurel Lance, and Dinah Drake respectively.
WHAT THIS MEANS
The CW has yet to release a statement as to why they decided to pass on this series.
Arrow helped to build this enormous universe of interconnected shows over its eight-year run, and set up stories for Laurel Lance, Mia Queen, and Dinah Drake, among other characters that were close to Oliver Queen in the series. After nearly a decade of storytelling, so many of these shows are now coming to a close, which certainly seems to indicate that it may be only a matter of time before the Arrowverse finally concludes.
No matter when that time comes, the series has had one of the most successful runs of any DC property yet. Black Lightning will end with season 4, while Supergirl will end with season 6 this year.
