The Book of Boba Fett was sneakily announced in The Mandalorian Season 2 finale and has now received an official announcement from Star Wars. The series will follow the success of Boba Fett’s return in The Mandalorian Season 2, which has seen much praise from critics and fans alike.

The official announcement of the series added new tidbits of information, including the addition of Robert Rodriguez as an executive producer on the series. Some lingering questions remained though , including how this would affect the production and potential release of The Mandalorian Season 3.

The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau has spoken about the show following its gripping season finale, including the jaw-dropping cameo appearance from a fan-favorite Star Wars character .

Now, Favreau, who is also an executive producer on The Book of Boba Fett , has spoken a bit more about how the series compares to The Mandalorian...

NEWS

In an interview with Good Morning America , Jon Favreau discussed The Book of Boba Fett and how it differs from The Mandalorian. The show's executive producer confirmed that the series is separate from The Mandalorian and that Season 3 will begin production "right after" The Book of Boba Fett:

"So this is actually separate from The Mandalorian Season 3, but what we didn't say in that announcement is that the next show coming, Kathy [Kennedy] said 'the next chapter,' and that's gonna be The Book of Boba Fett. And then we go into production right after that on Season 3 of The Mandalorian, y'know, back with the main character we all have known and loved."

The Mandalorian creator continued, giving an update on how far in development each project is:

"We're working on [The Mandalorian Season 3's] pre-production now, while we're in production of Boba Fett.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Jon Favreau has just confirmed two notable aspects of The Book of Boba Fett . Firstly, the series will not be The Mandalorian 's third season, being an entirely separate show. Secondly, the two shows seem to have a back-to-back production cycle, with Boba Fett coming first and The Mandalorian starting straight after.

Favreau's wording was vague though, as it is still unclear if The Mandalorian' s filming will begin after production of The Book of Boba Fett finishes or after the series' release in December. It is more likely, however, that it is the former, as pre-production has already begun on The Mandalorian ' s third season.

The question still remains regarding the release window for The Mandalorian , as a back-to-back production could very well indicate that the two shows could release around the same time. However, the fact that The Book of Boba Fett is being prioritized does indicate that the series will be released first, possibly suggesting that fans won't see Grogu again until early 2022. Despite the potentially long wait, it is reassuring that fans will still indeed see a third season for The Mandalorian and subsequently a continuation of Mando and Grogu's adventures in the galaxy.

The Book of Boba Fett follows the bounty hunter's solo journey on Disney+ in December 2021.
