It seems safe to say that no movie in MCU history has built a level of hype like that of Spider-Man: No Way Home. From the months it took to get the movie’s official title to the agonizing wait for its first trailer, this threequel truly is living up to its billing as the most ambitious solo superhero movie in history.

In late August, fans finally got that first trailer in a big way, getting a first glimpse at Peter’s on-the-run storyline alongside a money shot of  Alfred Molina’s Otto Octavius. The first three minutes of footage pulled off the impressive feat of giving fans a great deal of information to chew on while also keeping the core plot largely a mystery.

Due to the excitement generated from this trailer, which became the most-viewed trailer ever in its first 24 hours, fans are now itching to see more thrilling action in the expected second trailer.

However, the wait for that video is causing quite an online battle between Sony Pictures and rabid Spidey fans.

Sony & Spidey Fans at a Crossroads

MCU fans are bombarding trailers and videos from Sony Pictures with dislikes and angry comments as they wait for the second trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Examples include the Red Band trailer for Don’t Breathe 2, which currently has six times as many likes as dislikes from fans. One comment even referenced a quote from Peter Parker’s cage fight in 2002’s Spider-Man:

“Sony: We just want to show you some of our other projects.

Us: I missed the part where that’s my problem.”

A short character tease for Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City has a shocking dislike-to-like ratio of three-to-one, boasting funny tributes to past movies like 2007’s Spider-Man 3 in the comments section:

“Everyone: RELEASE THE NWH TRAILER

Sony: I’m gonna put some dirt in your eye.”

Another character bio video from the Resident Evil movie has just over 2,000 likes against over 5,000 dislikes, with one fan even pointing out that the most terrifying part of the clip doesn’t even relate to that film:

“the scariest part of the whole thing is that this isn’t the Spider-man NWH trailer”

The Wait for the No Way Home Trailer Continues

2021 has proven time and time again that MCU fans are relentless when it comes to wanting new material, whether it be in trailers or full releases. Thanks to all the news surrounding Spider-Man: No Way Home, the fandom hasn’t held back for one moment as the film’s release date draws closer.

With the first trailer having debuted two months ago and with less than two months until No Way Home debuts, the time for a second trailer appears to be imminent looking at past trailer timelines. As each day passes with no new footage from this threequel, it seems clear that fans won’t let up for a moment in the quest for another round of material from the film.

While some rumors point to the trailer still being a few weeks out, Sony’s timeframe for a second trailer is shortening quickly. Although there are no signs pointing to who may appear in the new footage, from villains like Electro and Sandman to both previous live-action web-slingers, that wait will become more anxiety-inducing by the day.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to debut in theaters on December 17, 2021.
