And just like that... we are down to our last two films in the MCU Madness Tournament . After weaving through every film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we have set the stage to determine who will come out as the top dog. In the Final Four, we saw some of the most symbolic matchups yet. We saw the two most important movies in Phase One battle against the two most important movies of Phase Three. Let's see how it went down.
Our first Final Four matchup is a stunning example of how far we have come in the MCU. This is a brief look into how Phase One truly set the stage for a successful run of MCU films to ultimately build the universe we love. Looking back on The Avengers, we see 6 heroes we have met over 5 movies come together to take down a villain we also met in one of those movies. The pure magnitude of that seemed like an impossible feat back in 2012 when comic book movies were facing a turning point. Because that risk was so madly successful, Marvel Studios was given the proverbial green light to take this as far as it could go. That success was the main reason Avengers: Infinity War was able to be made. No other cinematic universe could do so much at once and come out with a near-perfect film. Avengers: Infinity War will move on to the Championship Round.
And in our final matchup before the championship round, we see the beginning of the MCU take on the endgame. Much like our first matchup, the result of this contest shows more about the scale of each film than anything else. When Tony Stark first got in front of the world and announced that he was Iron Man, the universe in which he lived changed forever. He opened the door to what ended up being the greatest cinematic spectacle of all time. While Iron Man will hold its face on the Mt. Rushmore of Marvel movies for as long as we are writing these articles, Avengers: Endgame moves on. Avengers: Endgame will take on Avengers: Infinity War on Wednesday, April 15th.
AND THEN THERE WERE EIGHT...
