Marvel's WandaVision Will Imitate Steve Carell's The Office Sitcom Style

The Vision stare on The Office

There is no question that WandaVision is ramping up to be one of the weirdest things Marvel Studios has ever produced. Not only will this show explore multiple changes of realities through the lens of various decades and sitcoms, but it will lead directly into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Kevin Feige has already spoken about what specific sitcoms will influence the show, such as consulting Dick Van Dyke himself about emulating his sitcoms' era properly. In fact, there will be at least five classic sitcoms that will have massive sway over the realities that Wanda has created.

While these classics have been discussed blatantly in various interviews and referenced in the trailer, more modern sitcoms, minus Modern Family, haven't. Now, Kevin Feige has said that one more modern sitcom will have its style injected into the show, which should get fans excited.

NEWS

In an interview with Empire, Kevin Feige talked about the various shows that will influence WandaVision:

“I loved TV, and watched far too much The Dick Van Dyke Show and I Love Lucy and Bewitched and everything,” Feige says of his viewing habits as a kid. And while the bits we've seen of WandaVision so far tease homages to old black-and-white series, it has plenty more up its sleeve."

While it was assumed that Modern Family would be the only modern sitcom influencing WandaVision, Kevin Feige also revealed that The Office will be, too:

“We go up to the Modern Family and The Office style,” Feige reveals. “The talk-to-the-camera, shaky-camera, documentary style.”

Feige also implied that these two sitcoms will essentially act as the endpoint of Wanda's sitcom realities, as he says they will "go up to" these two styles.

WHAT THIS MEANS

This actually wouldn't be the first time that Marvel Studios has employed a "talk-to-the-camera, shaky-camera, documentary-style" of filmmaking, as they made a series of videos starring Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Darryl. It was a series of shorts telling audiences what Thor was up to while Tony and Rogers were butting heads in Captain America: Civil War.

It wouldn't be a surprise that this episode of WandaVision would play out similarly. Perhaps even Darryl Jacobson could make a cameo as a reference to this series of funny video shorts since he'd fit right in with the tone and style Marvel Studios will be paying tribute to.
