After the Skywalker Saga ended with a critically mixed Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, the Star Wars universe is looking bright heading into the 2020s decade. Kicking things off was the final season of the animated The Clone Wars, which premiered on Disney+ in February. October saw the debut of Season 2 of The Mandalorian , which has made exciting headlines every week with each new episode. Looking ahead to the next few years, Disney+ will be the home of new Star Wars content as multiple animated and live-action series are in development for the streaming service.

One of the highlights of these series is the untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi solo series , which will bring Ewan McGregor to play the grizzled Jedi master for the fourth time in live-action film after starring in the prequel trilogy from 1999 to 2005. Due to the pandemic, the start date for the series' production has gone through numerous changes, with the most recent update from McGregor himself placing the start of shooting in March 2021 .

A new report has just arrived with yet another change to this start date, although it's a shift that should have fans excited rather than disappointed.

NEWS

A new listing from the Film & Television Industry Alliance , via Reddit, reveals that the untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+ is scheduled to begin production on January 4, 2021. Filming is set to take place in Boston, Massachusetts as well as London, United Kingdom.

WHAT THIS MEANS

No reason was revealed for this latest shift in production, but coming from a source as solid as FTIA, there's an increasingly high chance that this series' production will begin sooner rather than later. After facing so many pandemic-related delays since the series was officially announced at 2019's D23 Expo, Ewan McGregor's exciting return to the Star Wars universe is starting to feel closer than ever if this report proves true.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is set to focus on McGregor's Jedi master in between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope , taking place eleven years before the plot of the original 1977 movie when Kenobi is serving his self-inflicted exile on Tatooine. The series consists of six episodes long and is meant to be only a one-season project. Despite this, the fan enthusiasm for the series is higher than ever as they wait to see McGregor as live-action Obi-Wan for the first time in over fifteen years.

The untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series is now reportedly set to begin shooting in January 2021, although there is no release date confirmed yet.
