Marvel's Ant-Man 3 Actress Teases New Size-Shifting Superhero Coming To the MCU

By John Ross Bradford Updated:
Kathryn Newton, Ant-Man

The Disney Investor Day of 2020 brought a ton of MCU news to fans everywhere, after a year that has been less than fruitful. It's quite exhausting having spent the majority of the year receiving nothing but bad news as projects were brought to a halt and films were delayed. But Disney brought the heat in mid-December, announcing new projects, like the Fantastic Four film, and finally revealing some new actors' mystery roles, such as Christian Bale playing Gorr the God Butcher in the fourth Thor film.

Another one of the many projects confirmed during the Disney event was Paul Rudd's third Ant-Man film, titled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania . Several Ant-Man stars will be returning for the threequel, including Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer. Two new stars were confirmed for the cast as well; Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror , and Kathryn Newton taking over the role of now-grown-up Cassie Lang.

Recasting the role of Cassie Lang has fans suspicious that the daughter of Ant-Man will have a bigger role in the MCU soon, especially if the third Ant-Man film will set up the Young Avengers team . With that in mind, the new actress might be leading fans on in a new social post, or she might have just confirmed those suspicions.

NEWS

In a recent post on Instagram, actress Kathryn Newton posted the segment from the Disney Investor Day event in which Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and its cast were confirmed. She captioned the video saying "Last night I dreamed of being a superhero." and tagged it saying "#STATURE," which many will recognize as Cassie Lang's superhero name in her Young Avengers comic debut. The post in its entirety can be viewed below.

As pointed out by Twitter user @YAvengersNews, Kathryn Newton also posted an image of Stature from Marvel Comics on her Instagram story:

WHAT THIS MEANS

At a glance, Kathryn Newton posting comic strips of her new Marvel character seems to be nothing more than the young actress expressing her excitement for her new MCU gig. But what's interesting is the use of "#STATURE" in the post's caption, which is a somewhat outdated name for Marvel's Cassie Lang. She's more recently gone by the moniker "Stinger" in Marvel comics, so this may be an indication that Marvel Studios will take a different direction with Cassie Lang than Marvel comics has in recent years.

To add to that, Newton's Instagram story featured Marvel's Stature, from before she began going by the name Stinger. Also, Newton's image shows Stature when she is in her giant form, possibly alluding to what fans can expect to see of Cassie Lang's character when Newton takes over the role. After all, would Newton post a photo of her character that doesn't represent what excites her about the role?

Combining all of this should give fans a strong indicator that Cassie Lang will have a much heavier hand in the Ant-Man threequel than in films past. With the MCU setting up other characters on the Young Avengers roster like Kate Bishop and Hulkling (among others) , Cassie Lang should have some good company to join by the time we see her again  in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
