Star Wars is looking forward to its biggest expansion into live-action storytelling ever in 2022 with The Book of Boba Fett finishing up and Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi both on the way. This new group of streaming projects was all made possible thanks to the success of The Mandalorian, which was included in the first round of new entries on Disney+ when the service kicked off in November 2019.

The first two seasons of The Mandalorian became incredibly successful culminating in a total of 39 Emmy nominations and 14 wins in 2020 and 2021. Characters from that show have even made their way into other parts of the universe with both Din Djarin and Fennec Shand making an impact on The Book of Boba Fett; that doesn't even include the internet-breaking Luke Skywalker inclusion as well.

With Season 2 having concluded in December 2021, and with three other Disney+ entries following its efforts, fans are wondering when The Mandalorian's third season will continue the warrior's growing story. The answer to that question seems to have arrived, and it looks to continue the trend set by Mando's first two eight-episode seasons.

TV Line indicated that the release date for The Mandalorian Season 3 is expected to land around Christmas 2022.

When asked about the series' return, the outlet called it "a safe bet" that Lucasfilm will utilize December for Mando's third season, even joking about Life Day in the process.

"It is a safe bet that Season 3 will premiere this year, probably around Life Day(crossed out) Christmastime."

For reference, Season 1 of The Mandalorian debuted on November 12, 2019, while Season 2 began streaming on October 30, 2020. The Book of Boba Fett, which came as a Mandalorian spin-off series, kicked off its first episode on December 29, 2021.

The Mandalorian Staying on Schedule for Disney+

Looking at Star Wars' history with live-action Disney+ series, each season's premiere date has come anywhere between the end of October and the end of December. Having gone a full year already without The Mandalorian, it seems that Lucasfilm is looking to keep that same trend going with Season 3's upcoming debut.

Filming for the series' next eight episodes has taken place on and off since September 2021, which includes an indefinite break that started at the end of the year due to COVID-19 concerns. Multiple Mandalorian stars have shared their excitement for what's coming in Season 3, with reports teasing the return of directors like Bryce Dallas Howard, and the excitement is starting to build for the next round of galactic excitement.

The Christmas timeframe teased in this report means that The Mandalorian's first episode of Season 3 could debut anywhere from December 14 to December 28, assuming the Wednesday Star Wars schedule still remains intact. This should give the show plenty of breathing room from Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and as many as five Disney+ series from Marvel Studios all coming this year.

No matter what date is actually used for this comeback, fans should be thrilled to expect more of Mando's gun-slinging, Darksaber-swinging adventures to come soon.

The Mandalorian Season 3 is expected to debut on Disney+ by the end of 2022.
